What happened next led to a weird and unexpected regular occurrence. -

Janine’s newly born son Kenny refused to breastfeed, preferring formula from a bottle than his mother’s own milk. He was sick every time she tried to feed her infant in the way that Mother Nature intended.

So she eventually gave in to her hungry offspring who was born in July and allowed her son to drink formula from the bottle.

But Janine was still pining desperately to go through the breastfeeding experience.

The forlorn mother had to express the build-up of milk as it was making her breasts sore and heavy, when a brainwave suddenly struck her!

Janine had recently rescued an abandoned kitten who she called Flash. The cat was weak and undernourished and she had tried everything to build up its strength but to no avail.

After some pretty controversial advice from a friend who recommended she try the cat on her own breast milk, Janine decided to give it a go.

First she put some milk down in a bowl for the kitten to try. The cat loved it and lapped it all up!

This then led to the next inevitable step and soon Janine was breastfeeding her kitten twice a day, cradling the cat as she would her own baby. A minute or so on both side, and he was done.

Janine said “I wanted the breastfeeding experience and Flash could give it to me, whereas my own baby couldn’t”.

She said sometimes the cat’s tongue felt rough and she could feel his teeth scraping but it never broke her skin.

Although once it did bite her breast when it was startled by a loud noise!

She has kept this private experience quiet and hasn’t told her friends and family about her twice daily habit, for fear of them not understanding.

However, Janine says that breastfeeding Flash is just “fantastic!”

Psychologist Dr. Funke Baffour stated: “It’s not right that Janine is breastfeeding her cat to fulfil her own desire to breastfeed. Instead of bonding with her baby, she’s bonding with an animal”

“Janine is justifying cat feeding to make herself feel like she hasn’t failed at breastfeeding, but this is inappropriate”

Before choosing this strange course of action, Janine did quite a but of research on the internet and found that the act of breastfeeding animals was not uncommon.

A woman in America breastfed her terrier dog when it became unwell and a Japanese woman also breastfed her cat, amongst many other instances.

Now, I’m not sure about the rights and wrongs here and I love kitties lots! but this…Ewww! - It just doesn’t seem right to me at all. –
